For those who love nice ridges the northeast ridge is an interesting alternative route tot he Wildspitze summit. Climbing the northeast ridge ist also possible in Winter and is an impressive experience.

From the top station of the Mittelbergbahn cableway we ski down to the Mittelbergjoch col, 3.166 m. We keep on going down 90 vertical metres until we reach the flat Taschach glacier where we put the skins on our skis.
Then we climb up the north-faced glacier up to the start of the north eas ridge at 3.580 m above sea level. We follow the wonderful ridge and pass some pretty exposed sections until we reach the northern summit of the Wildspitze. We traverse to the southern summit at 3.770 m with its massive summit cross and enjoy the breathtaking 360 degrees view.
We go down via the south east ridge (“normal route”, UIAA I+) to the ski depot. Then we ski down an almost 2.000 vertical metres downhill run via the Taschach glacier back to the valley station of the Glacier Express.
FITNESS: fitness for 6-8 h and 750 m vertical metres up and 2.000 vertical metres downhill run
TECHNIQUE: safe walking on a firn ridge, climbing in grade UIAA I+, no fear of heights, safe skiing in all snow conditions
